Cosmetic packaging is an integral part of the finished product and is at the heart of consumer safety and sustainability challenges. In a strict regulatory environment, understanding container-content interactions is essential to ensure product safety, support compliance activities, and protect consumer health. This training provides a practical overview of the regulatory framework and assessment strategies used to evaluate the risk of chemical substance migration from packaging materials into cosmetic formulations.

  • On the requirements of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 and relevant reference frameworks applicable to packaging safety assessment.
  • On applicable guidance documents and emerging requirements related to packaging sustainability, including PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation).
  • On the mechanisms of container-content interactions and migration phenomena.
  • On analytical approaches used to identify and evaluate potential migrants from packaging materials.
  • On how to develop an assessment strategy based on supplier documentation, analytical testing, and toxicological evaluation.
  • On the role and responsibilities of stakeholders involved in cosmetic packaging safety and compliance.
